🍝 Like a scene from a Wong Kar-wai film

During a trip to Shanghai, I visited Mi Shang, Prada's first restaurant in Asia, hidden in a quiet alley in Jing'an District. It isn't just a restaurant but an artistic space where fashion, film and fine dining meet.
It is located on the 2nd floor of Rong Zhai, a historic mansion built in 1918, and is a space Prada created when it restored this building in 2017. 🎭
Just the name Prada restaurant had my expectations high, but when I actually arrived... I was overwhelmed by a dreamy atmosphere, as if I had stepped into a scene from a Wong Kar-wai film.

πŸŽ₯ Pure Wong Kar-wai film mood

The moment you walk in, you feel the deep lighting and red walls, and a fantastical space created by light reflected in mirrors.
Wong Kar-wai's signature colors and slow mood, reminiscent of In the Mood for Love and Happy Together, are woven in everywhere.
Artworks from Prada's collection are placed on one side and 1960s Chinese furniture on the other, creating an atmosphere where East and West coexist.

✨ This is not just a "restaurant",
but a stage where art, film and fashion meet.

🍷 The best al dente I had in Shanghai

The dishes presented by Italian chef Lorenzo Lunghi
are not just pasta but works of art. The noodles are perfectly al dente, and the sauces are full of luxurious truffle and herb aromas!
The fusion menu, which adds the flavors of Chinese ingredients to authentic Italian cooking, has a taste you can only experience here.

πŸ’‘ My list of the best dishes I tried:

  • πŸ§€ Fagottini (Ricotta & spinach fagottini): a soft, nutty pasta combining ricotta, spinach and truffle butter
  • 🦐 Seafood spaghetti: full of prawns, clams and mussels! A seafood pasta bursting with freshness
  • πŸ₯£ Anolini: handmade pasta in harmony with an Asian-style broth made with ginger and lemongrass
  • 🐟 Black Cod: a refined white fish dish, crispy outside and tender inside
  • πŸ₯© Wagyu steak: rich, juicy wagyu with a spoonful of intense pepper sauce!

🍰 And of course, dessert!
The tiramisu, cassata and lemon delizia made by world champion chef Diego Crosara
combine a deep espresso aroma with freshness for the perfect finish. β˜•οΈπŸ’›

🎬 This is not just a restaurant

A space curated by Prada itself,
a mise-en-scène alive with Wong Kar-wai's sensibility,
and dishes that add an Asian lingering note to flavors from Italy's heartland.

It was the most artistic meal you can have in Shanghai,
and a place I definitely want to visit again on my next trip to Shanghai.

πŸ’ "Fashion is not clothing but culture, and culture extends to food and space, film and art."
β€” The place this saying fits perfectly: Prada Mi Shang.

πŸ’‘ Wrapping up

If you're looking for the most poetic dining in Shanghai, Prada's Mi Shang is the answer.
